SUMMARY JOB REQUIREMENTS

FOR CONSTRUCTION MANAGEMENT INSPECTOR

 

 

 

JOB TITLE:                Construction Management Inspector

 

POSITION TITLE:     Inspector II

 

GENERAL SUMMARY:

 

●          Previews project manuals, construction plans and special specifications.  Performs preliminary site evaluations and compares the scope of work shown on plans to actual site conditions.  Meets with contractor representatives, adjacent property owners, and other parties involved with construction projects for informational exchange including progress reporting, scheduling, lower-level problem resolution, changes, revisions, etc.  Monitors construction work in progress to assure standards are being met.  Inspects completed work and compares to specifications.  Prepares progress reports, verifies quantities for payment estimates, prepares recommendations, and other information related to construction projects.  Must demonstrate effective self-motivation regarding time and duties. Manager may revise duties as required for appropriate support of construction activities. 

 

KNOWLEDGE:

 

●          High school diploma or GED (experience not a substitute for education) 

 

●          2 - 3 years experience in the same or similar field, with specific experience in construction methods and quality standards

 

●          Ability to read and comprehend written materials such as safety cautions/warnings, maps, traffic signs, operating instructions, work procedures, construction plans and specifications

 

●          Written and verbal skills (including proper grammar, spelling and punctuation)for completion of    legible activity notes and required forms, and effective communication with co-workers, the         general public, contractors, and industry and/or other governmental representatives

 

●          Basic computer skills (position requires daily use of Microsoft and network-based applications)

 

●          Ability to solve mathematical problems (geometry & algebra) for normal work situations

 

●          Familiarity with basic filing systems

 

LICENSE:

 

●          Valid Texas Class C operator’s license

 

PHYSICAL EXERTION:

Includes maximum exertion of up to 20 pounds, and requires: 

 

●          Frequent standing and walking on rough, uneven, sloping, plowed or furrowed surfaces and other types of construction areas

 

●          Operation of a vehicle (with automatic or standard transmission)

 

●          Operation of office equipment such as computer, telephone, digital camera, calculator, fax machine or photocopier

 

●          Occasional climbing of ladders or scaffolds

 

●          Minimal sorting, filing and moving of documents or books, files and related materials or     equipment for clerical operations

 

ENVIRONMENTAL EXPOSURE:

 

●          Routine exposure to outdoor conditions such as temperatures and air quality, naturally-occurring mists, fumes or other pollutants or irritants such as bacteria, viruses, allergens, toxic plants such as poison ivy and poison oak, and wildlife and insects

 

●          Possible exposure to cement admixtures, curing compounds or petroleum products such as oil, gasoline, grease or other fuels or lubricants

 

●          Extensive use of computer display screens

 

●          Controlled indoor climate, with normal exposure to office lighting, temperature and air conditions

 

●          Routine exposure to fluids and chemicals used for office cleaning and photocopies
