JOB TITLE: DESIGN ENGINEER
POSITION TITLE: ENGINEER
GENERAL SUMMARY
Design construction plans and prepare specifications. Coordinate survey requests. Perform field investigations. Prepare documents for bidding. Coordinate between Engineering Design group and Construction Inspection. Coordinate with Environmental Services Department to permit projects. Review construction plans prepared by consultants. Direct CADD support personnel.
Must be a graduate of an accredited college or university with a degree in Civil Engineering with curriculum in hydraulics, channel flow and geotechnical issues. Must possess E.I.T. certification. Must be able to prioritize and schedule multiple tasks. Must be computer literate and proficient in Microsoft applications, especially Excel. Must have knowledge of AutoCAD and GIS systems. Prefer knowledge of construction specifications. Must effectively communicate with coworkers, general public, industry and/or governmental representatives.
LICENSE
Maximum exertion of up to 20 pounds. Requires frequent walking on rough and uneven surfaces or ground such as sloping terrain, plowed or furrowed areas or construction sites. Requires frequent driving of a vehicle with automatic controls. Requires frequent operation of equipment of such as data entry device, photocopier, telephone, facsimile, digital camera and calculator. Requires frequent sorting, filing, shelving and otherwise handling of documents or books, file drawers, and related materials and equipment.
ENVIRONMENTAL EXPOSURE
Normal office environment while indoors with acceptable lighting, temperature and climate controlled air conditions. Extensive use of a video display terminal. Routine exposure to fluids, compounds and/or chemicals used for photographic or photocopier development or reproduction. May be exposed to fluids, compounds and/or chemicals used in cleaning offices and/or work areas.
Routine exposure to significant levels of heat, cold, moisture, and air pollution when outdoors. Exposure to vibration and/or noise in excess of 85 decibels. Routine exposure to nature’s dust, mists, vapors, fumes and other pollutants. Routine exposure to toxic plants such as poison ivy, poison oak, and other vegetation that may contain/emit allergens or other pollen compounds. May be exposed to wasps, bees, and other flying/walking insects. May be exposed to aquatic bacteria, viruses, and other micro-organisms.
