EQUIPMENT  OPERATOR  II – NORTH  SERVICE  CENTER

 

JOB TITLE:                          EQUIPMENT  OPERATOR  II

 

POSITION TITLE:               OPERATOR  II

 

GENERAL SUMMARY

The Equipment Operator operates various small engine and moderate to heavy equipment used in the daily operation of the District’s Facilities Maintenance Department.  These duties include, but are not limited to, the following: 

·         Operate trucks and equipment including spray equipment, tractors, chainsaws, chippers, and weedeaters;

·         Check and maintain all equipment fluids, performs daily inspection(s) and fuels and washes equipment as necessary;

·         Report necessary replacement or repair of defective equipment to Supervisor I;

·         Cut and remove undesirable vegetation with equipment designated for that purpose;

·         Remove debris (trees, limbs, brush, vines, trash and refuse) from channel berms, slopes and bottoms for proper disposal;

·         Maintain and record labor activity (herbicide reports, daily activity reports, trash dump reports, etc.) and other reports as necessary;

·         Utilize safety wear equipment as specified by OSHA and dictated by each job assignment being performed;

·         Perform laborer duties as needed; and

·         Assist supervisor as needed.  

·         Some overtime may be required

·         Other duties may be assigned as the scope and nature of the job changes. 

 

KNOWLEDGE

·         Successful job applicant must have a high school diploma or equivalent; however, experience may be used as a substitute for education.  

·         Minimum of one year verifiable work experience operating related equipment is required. 

·         Successful job applicant must demonstrate ability to: 

Ø  Read and comprehend such written material as safety cautions, warnings, maps, traffic signs, operating instructions, etc.;

Ø  Write/record legible notes of activity and correctly complete required forms;

Ø  Solve simple mathematical problems that may be required in normal work situations; and

Ø  Effectively communicate with co-workers, general public, industry, and/or governmental representatives.  

·         Applicants will be subject to general posting requirements.

 

LICENSE

·         Texas Class C Operator Driver’s License

·         Preference may be shown to applicants who possess a commercial driver’s license and/or herbicide license. 

 

PHYSICAL EXERTION

·         Requires frequent walking and working on rough and uneven surfaces or ground such as sloping terrain, plowed or furrowed areas, or construction sites

·         Requires frequent operation/use of small hand and power tools/equipment

·         Frequently inspects and drives a vehicle with automatic/standard controls

·         May occasionally carry backpacks containing herbicides weighing up to 30 pounds.

 

ENVIRONMENTAL EXPOSURE

·         Will be exposed to vegetation retardants, herbicides, and/or fertilizers

·         Routine exposure to significant levels of heat, cold, moisture and air pollution

·         Routine exposure to petroleum products including but not limited to oil, gasoline, grease, diesel, other fuels and lubricants

·         Routine exposure to nature’s dust, mists, vapors, fumes, other pollutants and toxic plants such as poison ivy, poison oak, and other vegetation that may contain/emit allergens or other pollen compounds

·         May be exposed to vibration and/or noise in excess of 85 decibels

·          May be exposed to wasps, bees, other flying/walking insects and aquatic bacteria, viruses, and other micro-organisms
